ICAN’s new Trades Guide is a great resource for students considering a career path in the construction trades. These Iowa Building and Construction Trades Registered Apprenticeship Programs are overseen by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, and are “Earn and Learn” programs that combine on-the-job training with structured learning at no cost to students. With the apprenticeship program, students work full-time and go to classes. Individuals in these fields can make up to $95,900 – $105,000 per year in wages and benefits. In addition to experience, a paycheck, and a job guarantee, many apprentice programs can be applied to an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
